Contains 37 medical notebooks from Seth Hastings, 1745-1830, and his son, Seth Hastings, 1780-1861. Includes several notebooks recording patient histories, recipes for medicine, and information collected on women's health issues including childbirth and menstruation. Additional papers consist of contemporary writings on smallpox, and correspondence from Seth Hastings to the President petitioning the government to institute a national smallpox vaccination program in ca. 1814. Also contains correspondence and notes by Sylvanus Fansher.
